ALBERTO VILLARREAL (Mexico City 1977), is a Theater Author, Director and Creator, as well as a member of the FONCA National System of Art Creators in Mexico. His creative work includes more than forty productions –most from his authorship - ; with a presence in eleven countries. He has a Bachelor´s Degree in Dramatic Literature and Theatre at the UNAM, awarded with the Gabino Barreda medal and has completed residencies of specialization at the Royal Court Theatre of London, the Carolina Foundation in Madrid, or the Lark Center of New York. He has created at theatres such as Vila Flor in Guimaraes, Portugal or with companies such as the Tablón Theatre in Esquel, Argentina. His texts have been published by Nick Hern Books in London; Cierto Pez in Santiago de Chile; Le Miroir qui fume in Paris and El Milagro in Mexico. He has been invited to festivals or theatres such as the Transamerique of Montreal, the Iberoamericano of Cádiz, or the NTH8 in Lyon. He has been granted several creation scholarships such as Jóvenes Creadores and Fundación para las Letras Mexicanas in Mexico. As essayist, he has been awarded with the CITRU-Paso de Gato essay theatre prize and has written for art magazines such as Letras Libres or Tempestad. He has taught courses in cities such as Havana, Madrid and Sao Paulo. He was the artistic director of the Artillería Producciones Company and La Madriguera Theatre from 2001 to 2011. His Main Theatrical Productions are: El "Lado B" de la materia (2013) Ensayo sobre débiles (2011) and Memorias de uma máquina a vapor (2008). He was awarded the José Fuentes Mares national literature prize for his book "Siete años en ensayos" and joined the academic council of the Ingmar Bergman Chair in Film and Theatre of the UNAM.
